About

George Herbert is the Assistant Organist at St John's College Cambridge, following his three years as the Herbert Howells Organ Scholar whilst he studied Music and German. He now directs Aquila, the College's all-female a capella ensemble, and is building a varied career as a choir trainer, animateur, organist and trumpeter. He is a coach on the Oxford and Cambridge Singing School, and enjoys regularly collaborating with Kantos Chamber Choir and the Armonico Consort. His programme will showcase Thaxted's restored Lincoln Organ, which was moved from St John's Chapel, Bedford Row to Thaxted Parish Church in 1858. The significance of this instrument as a unique little-altered Georgian organ has been recognised by the award of a Grade 1 certificate as a rare instrument of its period by the British Institute of Organ Studies. Since its restoration in 2014, the Lincoln Organ Recital has become an annual highlight of our Festival, attracting both specialists and general listeners alike. The programme of works to be performed will be posted here nearer the date, and will be distributed at the recital.
