Beach of Dreams
26 June – 1 Aug 2021
500 Miles 500 People 500 Dreams 500 Silks
Beach of Dreams is an epic walking journey along the East Coast of England, involving communities and artists along the way. Project Director, Ali Pretty, and journalist Kevin Rushby are walking the entire route, joined by artists, writers, scientists, and local residents.
People are being encouraged to take part by choosing a mile to walk, submitting an image of the landscape, a photo or a drawing and a few words about their connection to it and dream for its future. The words and photos sent in will contribute to a digital story map of the coastal path, reflecting and recording the narrative of the walk as it unfolds.
Images submitted by 9th April 2021 will be used as inspiration for the design of 500 silk pennants (flags) illustrating the coastal landscape. These pennants will be hand painted by the project’s design team and will form spectacular installations during the event.
People can join the walk along the stretch they have chosen, and carry the pennant inspired by their own image.
The walk starts on 27th June, at sunrise on the beach at Lowestoft, during the First Light Summer Solstice Festival and follows the coast including Harwich Festival on 10th July and the finale at Tilbury Fort on 1st August.
