The Blackwater Estuary is the largest in Essex and one of the saltiest rivers in England. The southern boundary of Maldon District is the Crouch Estuary, between the two estuaries is the peninsula known as ‘The Dengie’; this low-lying marshland is scattered with charm and historical interest.
