The name Althorne derives from the Old English (place at) the burnt thorn-tree. Althorne is on the Dengie Peninsula and is linked to London via a train station on the outskirts of the town.
Two Vineyards Clayhill Vineyard and Crouch Ridge Vineyard are positioned on the slopes between Althorne and Latchingdon. This makes it ideal growing conditions for the grapes which in turn produces awarding winning wines. Both vineyards have on site facilities including a café and bistro.
