Essex is well connected, not only to the city of London, but also to the rest of the UK. There is good access to Essex from all parts of the country via the A12, A13, M25 and M11.
The A12 slices through the county from Brentwood in the southwest, to just past Colchester in the northeast. The A13 takes you from East London to the seaside town of Southend-On-Sea. The M11 provides a direct route into Essex from Cambridge and the M25 has 6 exits in the west of Essex, connecting to major roads including the A127, A12 and A13.
To give you an indication of travel times, a journey from Brentwood to Colchester, under normal traffic conditions, will take just under an hour (approximate distance 36.5 miles or 59 km). [Download a roadmap of Essex.]
