Braintree Christmas Light Switch on performer in 2019

Start the countdown to Christmas at the annual fun-packed Christmas Lights Switch On in Braintree Town Centre on Saturday 20th November with Radio Essex, starting at 12noon with the official light switch on at 5.30pm.

There will be plenty of festive cheer up across the town centre, including:

Live music entertainment from local singers and school choirs in Market Place, right up until the big light switch on at 5.30pm with Radio Essex's presenters Martin and Su. A BSL interpreter will also be on the main stage from 5pm until 5.30pm during the light switch on.

George Yard Shopping Centre will light up with their switch on at 5pm and live music and entertainment will take place down the Fountain end of the High Street from 1pm-6pm organised by The Boars Head, subject to acceptance of a road closure.

Over 50 stalls across the town centre for our annual Christmas street market galore, with everything from unique homeware, personalised presents, to Christmas decorations, handcrafted jewellery & more, there's sure to be something special for your loved ones. You'll also be spoilt for choice with food; tuck into a delicious burger or gourmet roast dinner wrap, or pick up some chocolate kisses or artisan pastries to take home and enjoy for the weekend.

- Drinks bar, Christmas children activities and family photo shoots at Braintree Town Hall

- Festive entertainment and a chance to meet festive characters in George Yard Shopping Centre

Visitors are encouraged to follow all of the latest government COVID-19 guidance when visiting the event. This includes wearing a face covering in crowded spaces where people may come into contact with others they don't normally meet, getting tested before attending and self-isolating if required or are symptomatic.
