About

Drop in sessions from 10.30am-12.30pm and 2-4pm.

Come to the Castle on Wednesdays in the summer to join our craft sessions inspired by our new exhibition Decoding the Roman Dead.

+ 27th July | Pinch Pots. Discover Roman Face pots and make your own clay pot to take home.

+ 4th August | Bug Hotels. Decoding the Roman Dead reveals facts about people who lived in Roman Colchester, but what did they look like? Use the art of mosaic to create a Roman portrait.

+ 11th August | Recycled Jewellery. Inspired by the objects on display, create your own Roman Peg people

+ 18th August | Bottle Buddies. Romans would make oil lamps to help them with many daily activities, they would also leave them as offerings at the grave. Why not make your own clay oil lamp.
