About
Bird Aware Essex is inviting people to get involved in the Great Coastal Birdwatch 2023, which takes place from 14 to 29 October. This is the first year the project is being delivered along our coast and estuaries in Essex. It will provide valuable data on the birds that spend winter here and will help raise awareness of the wealth of bird life on our doorstep. All you need to do is spend up to an hour somewhere on the Essex coast and count the different birds that you see. You can do this by yourself, with friends and family or you can come along to the Coastal Ranger pop-up event at Promenade Park on Saturday.
The Coastal Rangers will be on hand with their telescopes and bird guides to help you identify the birds, and to chat about the ways to be more aware of our coastal feathered friends.
You can also take part in the Birdwatch in your own time. Choose a spot around the Essex Coast to do your watch, between Saturday 14 to Sunday 29 October. You might choose to download the Great Coastal Birdwatch recording form, or our Children’s Great Coastal Birdwatch recording form , to help you identify the birds and keep count. Spend up to one hour seeing how many different species of birds you can spot. Check out our Meet the birds pages for help in identifying them.
If you want, you can add to our data by letting us know how many of each species you’ve seen. After you have finished your bird watch, let us know what you spotted using our special online form.
