Top of Maldon's beacon with starlings

About

The Platinum Jubilee celebrations in Maldon will involve the lighting of the newly refurbished large gas beacon by the lake, which can be seen all the way down the estuary.

The evening's events will begin with Cllr Bob Boyce MBE and Cllr Stephen Nunn (Chairman and Vice-Chairman of Maldon District Council) unveiling a plaque at a tree which has been planted as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy.

The beacon lighting ceremony will begin at the Amphitheatre at 21:10 with the reading of the Proclamation followed by a lone piper playing the Diu Regnare, a special piece written by Pipe Major Stuart Liddell, Glenfiddich Champion Piper. The piper will process to the nearby beacon which will be lit at 21:45 at the same time as more than 2.000 other beacons around the country.
