PART OF COLCHESTER FRINGE FESTIVAL

By Dr Anthony Roberts (Colchester, England)

The Masque of Anarchy (or The Mask of Anarchy) is a British political poem written in 1819 by Percy Bysshe Shelley following the Peterloo Massacre of that year. In his call for freedom, it is perhaps the first modern statement of the principle of nonviolent resistance. It is a bristling verse, full of outrage and anger but ultimately it is about strength and hope.

Dr Roberts is known for his recital of Dickens Christmas Carol which he performs each year to packed houses at Colchester Arts Centre where he works as Artistic Director.

**This is a Pay-What-You-Can-Afford event. All proceeds will be donated to a local charity.
