About

Join us for a fun and energetic free family day event inspired by the Singh Twins Slaves of Fashion exhibition at Firstsite.

Enjoy free drop-in arts and cultural activities and a curry lunch as we mark the start of the summer school holidays.

Activities on the day:

Create personal and unique booklets with artist, Asma Hashmi which you can decorate with patterns inspired by the works in the exhibition using stencils, circles and squares.  Colour can also be used in layers to build striking images.

Investigate personal journeys and migration experiences, with Suman Gujral as you make boats from colourful handmade Lokta paper from the Himalayas.  You will also be able to make a hanging mobile to take away with you.

Decorate or create Rangoli patterns and adorn their creations with varying gemstones and sequin with Preet Kaur Cox. A popular activity for families, you will be able to use your colourful imagination and express your creativity and individuality through an ancient Indian art form.

Join Remi Rana Allen to use golden thread weaving to create your own dream catcher – believed to offer protection and safety as good dreams are captured and filtered through. We should all have good dreams.

Food will be available from 12:00pm until it’s gone!

This free event is open to everyone of all ages and booking is not required.
