About

What would you do if you were alone in the woods, without power or food? With confidence and capability, anyone can raise the odds of surviving a tricky situation.

But many women report that survival and bushcraft are seen as 'macho' and this puts us off learning survival skills. We want to change that!

Join our instructors, Jess and Megan, to learn all the skills you need to survive in the wilds of the Essex/Suffolk borderlands. Come for the day between 1-4pm on Saturday 8th March… or take the extra adventurous option of staying over in the woods and heading home next morning!

We'll start with a quick introduction to what survival training is all about over a cup of tea. You'll then learn how to safely use various useful bladed tools in a survival situation, from folding and fixed bladed knives to small axes and saws.

You'll learn how to keep yourself alive in a tough spot by focusing on the priorities of survival; air, water, fire and shelter.

But what about the food, you ask? Well, the session is only for three hours (unless you opt for the overnight session) and you should be able to survive that long without…but why would you want to? S'mores, toast and tea will be waiting, so you'd better listen closely to the firelighting instructions and build your campfire well.

You'll learn useful skills, but with a light-hearted teaching style. Instructors will be happy to take any questions you might have about basic survival.

This is a fantastic experience for any woman who wants to get into bushcraft, go on a big hike or camping trip, feel stronger and more self-sufficient in life, learn new and interesting things, get back to nature, or just have a lovely time in beautiful surroundings with likeminded people!

For the first time, we invite you to upgrade your booking to an incredible overnight survival experience this year. Our instructors will help get you ready for the night with more advanced shelter-building, fire-pit prep and cooking your evening meal.

Dragon Wood is private, only accessed by White Dragon Activity Centre, and no other groups will be booked in during your overnight stay. There are also no nearby roads, so you'll find the wood magically peaceful and wild at night. Keep your ears and eyes peeled for the badgers, owls, buzzards, deer, foxes and voles that call these five acres home!

After an exciting night under the stars, you'll feast on a good campfire breakfast before returning to civilisation with new skills, new confidence, and tales to tell.
