Wyvernwood, an enchanted lost kingdom set in the Essex countryside.
On 15th July 2022 Wyvernwood, near Colchester opened its magical portal for the first time to the outside world. Its magical inhabitants, the Captain, Gurt the King of the Goblin Tribe, Princess Arabella, Zephyr and Zeta the Dragons and Tatiana ‘Queen of the Fairies’ were ready to greet the hordes of visitors that poured through its portal, eager to explore an enchanted lost kingdom.
The brainchild of The Marsdens, owners of Wyvernwood is an adventure park which re-enacts a very special book written by Susie ‘The Captain & The Magic Compass’. The three play areas; Castle Grounds, Dragon Trail and Wellbeing Woods bring the adventures of the book’s mystical characters to life. Children aged 2-12 (and parents!) have space to run, explore and fire-up their imagination, meet the fairies who live in the woods, explore the Enchanted Castle and step aboard the Captain’s magnificent Galleon!
Launching a new attraction is never easy and has taken five years from drawing board to launch. Of course, Covid-19 hampered development work, but with a budget of over £3.5 million, hiring of 55 team members, planting of 3500 trees, the new 26-acre adventure park was ready to open.
The visitor experience is at the heart of Wyvernwood’s secret to success. All team members live and breathe the company culture, which is taught in their 16 principles ‘A Guide to a Happy Workforce’ – The Wyvernwood Way. The team is extending its customer reach with off-peak visits for schools, nurseries, plus children with special education needs. Special events are planned throughout the year, such as Halloween and Christmas, and plans are afoot to expand the park. As the mystical creatures’ story unfolds, so will Wyvernwood’s play areas, creating new adventures for young and old to explore, whilst keeping the adventure park fresh and exciting.
“The stunning Essex countryside provides the perfect backdrop to launch an innovative new family attraction.”
