About
Theatrical walking tour of Dedham with two Guides in period costume and character.
Join John Constable's sister, Martha, and her husband, Nathaniel, (aka Claire and Ian of GuideEast) on an entertaining tour of the village of Dedham, which is a must-see on any visit to Constable Country.
Dedham is on the banks of the River Stour whose working life is captured in many of John Constable's paintings.
Martha and Nathaniel have returned to live in the Stour Valley where she happily grew up with her brother, John. They have moved into Dedham and are delighted to take you around this fascinating village where John went to school.
See the places that would have been familiar to our famous artist and hear about the characters that have lived here over the years. From lecturers who roared their sermons to pilgrims who travelled to the new worlds in the 17th Century.
Discover the former site of a Mill their Father once owned, witness where her brother went to school, and see the Tower of the glorious 15th Century Church which appears in John's paintings. Hear about the wealth of the wool trade which gave the people of Dedham the money to build such a grand Church, hear about their lives interwoven with tales of witchcraft, Puritans, Pilgrims, roaring lecturers and of course artists. Uncover Dedham's royal connections and let your Guide unveil where it is believed Dedham buried their very own "father Christmas"... You may even discover a ghost or two in this historic village.
