About

Poplar is proud to have been at the heart of the community for over 80 years. Our roots are firmly established in nursery production and growing, with Eric Cowan founding Poplar Nurseries initially producing plants outside and cucumber and melons under glass.  We have diversified over the years and now welcome thousands of visitors to Poplar a year, but we still continue to be innovative and forward thinking.

Being long established in the growing of plants and with roots running three generations deep, Poplar Nurseries has evolved to become one of the leading independent garden centres, renowned for its wide range of plants and customer service.

Now in its twelfth year, the Poplar Miniature Railway is a firm favourite with families of all ages. The railway was designed to complement the lovely gardens and winds its way gently around Orchard Curve, through the new tunnel, Cottage Crossing and Folly Bank, taking three minutes to complete the circuit. Suitable for visitors of all ages but especially for young children, our beautiful line runs for 350 yards from the station in front of the play area. Complete your family trip to Poplar Nurseries with a ride on the Poplar Miniature Railway.

The railway is open everyday from 10am to 4pm (Sunday 10am to 3.30pm), weather permitting .
