About
Nestled in farmland in rural Essex, is a small secret garden, that has a wonderful charm and serenity to it. Set in 3½ acres, mostly paddocks, a little plot of loveliness wraps around a Victorian cottage, and roses smother the porch in June. A meandering lawn takes you through beds and borders softly planted with a cottage feel, a haven for wildlife and people alike.
Dean Harris, a local artist blacksmith, will have a pop-up forge on site making and selling metal plant accessories on the day of your visit. Parking available a short walk up the lane near The Cats pub, and for those who might struggle to walk there's parking at the property in the paddock. Refreshments available. The gardens are unsuitable for wheelchair users.
The garden is a haven for wildlife, visitors often comment they could sit for hours just listening to the birds, and that's exactly what you are invited to do. Bring your camera, sit for a while, breath out and relax. Parts of the garden are untended, this is a deliberate strategy to encourage wildlife and give them rough areas of garden, undisturbed by cultivation. The planting is designed to stimulate the senses, touch the grasses, smell the roses, hear the trees on the breeze.
