About
Free choir to support people with Dementia / Alzheimer's and their friends, family and carers. A great way to boost wellbeing, connect with loved ones and spread the joy of music by singing together!
We are Ace Music Therapy CIC, a social enterprise based in Chelmsford, Essex, committed to transforming lives through music. We have recently launched a new choir to support people with Dementia and Alzheimer's in Maldon, called 'Still Sharp'.
Singing in a choir is one of the most beneficial activities to support physical and emotional wellbeing for everyone. Singing helps to reduce anxiety, boost mood, maintain speech and communication and enhance our overall quality of life. When practiced in a group, singing provides feelings of unity and connection with those around us, helping to reduce depression and loneliness.
There is a vast amount of evidence that supports the use of music in Dementia and Alzheimer's care as it has an ability to tap into emotions that relate to our memories. Often when we hear a certain song it will remind us of a time that we have heard the song before, bringing back cherished memories and helping us to create new ones.
Still Sharp Choir will run every Wednesday at 11:45am - 12:45pm, starting from the 8th of June 2022 until Wednesday 27th of July 2022. It will be held at St Mary's Church, Church Lane, Maldon, St Mary's Ln, Maldon CM9 5HN.

Katie, who runs the choir says: "We are really excited to be given the opportunity to provide free music therapy here in Maldon. By bringing individuals with dementia together with their carers, family and friends, the 'Still Sharp' choir hopes to create a supportive and safe environment to sing together, make music and meet new friends. It is widely known that music can have a profound positive effect on our mood, memory and physical well-being and so we hope to reach out to as many people as we can over the next 8 weeks to experience the great power of group singing."
If you have a family member or care for someone with Dementia or Alzheimer's, come along to Still Sharp and experience the joy that comes from singing together. Sign up using this form: https://forms.gle/1pkSwNpUqH32H3vr6
