About
Prepare to be a-mazed this Spring as Lakeside Shopping Centre reveals its sustainable maze project, launching on Monday 1 April.
Located in the central atrium, this year's Spring activity explores adventure and fun while learning about the importance of protecting our precious planet and the meaning of sustainability.
The centre piece is a giant maze made from Quick Blocks, a sustainable material made from 100% recycled milk containers, bottle lids, and recycled children's toys. Visitors can explore the maze from start to finish with lots of twists and turns to challenge them on the way, plus fun facts about recycling and what Lakeside does to minimise waste every day.
Around the corner is a living wall bursting with real Tulips, Daffodils, and Forget Me Nots, a lovely place for a group photo or to relax and enjoy the smells it produces. Then, take time out to relax on the recycled bee bench in the Bug House area complete with a giant honey pot and selfie station, plus pick up facts about the importance of bees and the massive part they play in pollination – they don't just make honey!
Want to make a mini terrarium from recycled water bottles? Roll up your sleeves and get 'rewilding', which means: letting nature take care of itself, enabling natural processes to shape land and sea, repair damaged ecosystems and restore degraded landscapes. By creating a mini ecosystem, children can watch their plants grow and get excited about nature in a very different way.
That's not all. There's also a smart energy station that generates energy from movement and forces – jump on the bike and use pedal power to see how much energy is needed to boil a small glass of water. Then, visit the sustainable fashion station with a clothing swap. Visitors can bring in their old unwanted items of clothing and swap them for others – only clean and undamaged items are wanted for this activity, please.
This free event runs from Monday 1 April until Friday 12 April and is available by simply turning up.
