Harlow Mill Station
– Two Walking Routes
The nearest station is HARLOW MILL on the Liverpool Street to Cambridge line. It is just over two miles walk, via roads, if you head south through Old Harlow village and then east along the B153 on the south side of the new Gilden Way housing estate.
As of August 2019 there is a shorter (1.6 km), pleasant rural route, but be aware sections can be wet and muddy after rain:
For passengers from Liverpool Street: Cross tracks by footbridge and exit station by main building.
For passengers from Cambridge: Walk up the platform and exit station by main building.
Turn left out of station building, walk past cycle racks, and take pedestrian tunnel under the road.
Take first turning on the left into The Hoo, past green lamp post marked "No Ball Games". Walk up The Hoo, ignoring turnings on your right. Just past a convenience store on your left, you will reach Old Road.
Cross Old Road. Turn left and walk over the railway bridge. Turn right shortly into Wheatfields with the White Horse pub on your left. Go through the kissing gate on the left. After 20 metres, the path diverges. Do not enter the field. Take the path to the right towards a large fir hedge. Walk a short distance down this narrow path with the gardens of the Wheatfield houses on your right. Cross the wooden footbridge and walk along the edge of the field, with the railway track on your right. After approx. 500 metres, you will see the railway tunnel to your right. Walk through this (sometimes difficult after prolonged rainfall). The Gibberd Garden is visible shortly through the trees on your left. Walk straight UP this lane for about 400 metres, past the gate with the eagles and onto the next gate which is the main entrance to the Gibberd Garden.
