About

This pleasant little country town of Chipping Ongar is in the Epping Forest district and is located near the towns of Harlow, Epping and Brentwood. The town has all the facilities visitors could want with guest houses, pubs and local attraction such as the Epping Ongar Railway, which operates steam and diesel hauled trains through 5.5 miles of picturesque rolling countryside and through Epping Forest, along the former London Underground Central Line.

Listed buildings line Chipping Ongar high street, whilst the church incorporates Roman bricks. Other notable attractions include Ongar Castle which is an 11th Century Matte & Bailey castle or - in nearby Greensted village - you can visit Greensted Church, which is believed to be the oldest Wooden Church in the world dating back to the 6th century.
