About

Colchester Town Hall, with its rich history dating back to the 18th century, is often shrouded in tales of the supernatural. Visitors and staff have reported eerie occurrences that lend an air of mystery to the building.

One of the most commonly recounted experiences is the sensation of being watched. Many claim to have felt cold spots in certain rooms, particularly in the grand staircase area, where shadows seem to flit just out of the corner of one's eye. Some have reported hearing unexplained whispers or faint echoes of laughter, especially during quiet hours.

The clock tower also has its share of ghostly legends. It's said that the a former town clerk roams the halls, tirelessly working on paperwork even after his death. His presence is often felt near the mayor's office, where strange noises and the rustling of papers have been reported.

Another chilling tale involves the old council chamber, where ghostly apparitions have been sighted. Witnesses describe a figure dressed in Victorian attire, appearing momentarily before vanishing into thin air. The atmosphere in this chamber can feel heavy, as if charged with the weight of past deliberations.

Overall, the combination of historical significance and these haunting tales makes Colchester Town Hall a focal point for ghostly goings-on, ensuring that the spirits of the past linger just beneath the surface of everyday life.
