About

A special day of celebration for the 200th anniversary of the the modern railway network - Railway 200.

The Stockton & Darlington Railway opened on September 27, 1825, connecting places, people, communities and ideas and ultimately transforming the world.

Railway 200 will be a year-long nationwide partnership-led campaign to celebrate 200 years of the modern railway and inspire a new generation of young pioneering talent to choose a career in rail. It invites community, rail and other groups to get involved.

We will be getting involved on Sunday 13th July 2025 – with our biggest and best event of the year – along with the Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership, Greater Anglia and the local community, including station adopters will be be having a event for all the family.

This will be simlar to our highly successful event in 2024 where we celbrated Chappel 175 – the 175th Anniversay of the Marks Tey to Sudbury Railway Line.

More details will be available soon, however we can tell you we'll be running our trains, both steam and diesel, as well as the Miniature Railway.

Our friends from Molly Moo's Ice Creams will be here.

Check out our working Restoration Shed, See how the volunteers are getting on with the restoration of Lamport, the magnificent Victorian Goods Shed, period Waiting Rooms & Signal Box as well as the Thompson Centre & Train themed Children's Playground, our site of over 10 acres is ideal if you would like to bring your own picnic.
