Vintage Garden Party

About

Its time to get classy. Pull on your best summer outfits - modern or vintage - and join us for a sunny afternoon under blue skies.

Picture the scene.

Clear blue skies stretching above. Lush green grass underfoot. The strains of music dance on the air as the summer sun warms your face.

You wander, arm-in-arm with someone important to you, dressed in your favourite summer outfit. From the 40's...or the 30's..or maybe Victorian....or it might be a new ensemble for this year.

You pause to listen to the music...before perhaps enjoying some croquet. You drift into the 1917 Airmen's Mess to grab something tasty from the High Tea buffet table...before heading back out to enjoy something fizzy from the bar.

Glancing at your watch, you realise its time to enjoy something interesting and head over to the historical team - to be entertained, while picking up some interesting facts to share with others later...

Sound good? Then this is the event for you.

Experience the elegance of Victorian Fashion with renown historical Interpreters Tastes Through Time. Join them as they delve into the exquisite world of period dressing. Have you ever considered the comfort of a corset? Seriously sought out that classic silhouette? Fancy learning how many layers it takes to get it?

Loved for their friendly and informal style, join the Tastes through Time team and witness, first hand, the story behind the skirts! Plenty of time to ask questions and enjoy - all included with your admission.

We will be welcoming regional favourites the Essex Yeomanry BandThey will entertain from their broad repartee as you relax. Well established - they were formed in 1809 - and respected across Essex and the region, they are sure to delight. They are one of the oldest uniformed bands in the country, so this will be a return to their roots.

Our famous Airmen's Mess, built in 1917 and largely unchanged since, will prepare a High Tea buffet for you to enjoy - prepared by our very own team and served for you. This will include traditional hot drinks or something bubbly..but not alcoholic. (If you want something stronger - head outside!)

If you fancy something refreshing, with a bit more oomph than Tea, then you can wander over to our pals Datum Attitude Brewery. This well-loved local Craft brewer will be on hand to provide any of its lovely ales, but also something summery and bubbly, just for you! They will be pulling out all the stops with a selection of small-producer still and sparkling wines, locally made cider and artisan gin.

(Please note - you will need to purchase this yourself; the bar isn't covered with your admission ticket!)

As you enjoy the afternoon, you 'll be able to take in something truly classical - a demonstration of that quintessentially English garden sport - Croquet! Our friends at the Maldon Croquet Club will explain and show you all the secrets of this gentle but exciting past-time, played on the green grass of Great Britain for centuries.

We welcome you to dress as you you feel - modern Smart-casual or vintage apparel. Let's make it a special day and enjoy the occasion!

Your admssion covers access to the exhibitions that will be open on the afternoon, as well as tours of our hangars by arrangement.

This event may not be suitable for younger visitors.

Well-behaved dogs, on short leads and under control at all times, will be welcome - with their responsible owners.

There will be photo-opportunities available for all.

Parking will be free.
